Paycheck For 2 Million Views

Firstly, we want to make it clear that this post is not meant to sound ungrateful. We love our community and have been consistently posting content for nearly two years. For most of that time, we were not earning anything, so everything we shared was completely free.

Recently, we started earning some money from our user-generated content on Instagram. The platform pays us based on the performance of our carousel and static posts, but for some reason, we do not get paid at all for reels. This is especially frustrating because we have five reels with over a million views each, and several of them have multiple millions. Our most popular reel currently has 17.5 million views, 101,541 likes, and 109,354 shares, but Instagram did not pay us a dime for that performance.

Last month alone, our account gained 1.98 million views, reached 760,000 accounts, received 82,500 interactions, and gained 1,327 new followers. Yet Instagram paid us only $107.40 in total. To break it down, the posts they do pay for, our carousel and static posts, had the following engagement:

  • 3,039 saves
  • 97 reposts
  • 23,177 total interactions

While we are indeed personal finance wizards who value every single dollar, it is hard not to question the fairness of receiving such little compensation relative to the level of engagement and original content we are creating. Is this really fair?

Consider making a donation to the wizards today. Your support helps keep The Personal Finance Wizards, LLC running and allows us to continue creating valuable content for our audience. We make very little from our free, user generated content on social media so every donation (big or small) goes a long way. Thank you!
